Common Questions
Got questions? We’ve got answers! Here's a quick guide to help you.
Fly into Jose Maria Cordova International Airport (MDE)
Arizona Guests:
You must book a connecting flight to get to Medellin. There are several options.
- Cheapest: If you can do a 2 stop journey, the most cost effective way to fly to Medellin is to do a one-way to Las Vegas, then book a multi-leg flight from Las Vegas to Medellin to Phx. Trust me, you save so much money this way. (United/AA/Spirit/Aviaca/Copa)
- Fastest route: Phx Houston -> Medellin (AA)
- Other options:
- Phx -> Dal -> Med
- Phx -> Houston -> Med
- Phx -> Miami -> Med
Dallas Guests:
- DFW -> MDE. Just do it.
- Cheapest: Spirit Airlines DFW -> Miami -> MDE
East Coast Guests:
Your best bet is to fly to Miami as a connection.
If you have an E-SIM! Most phones have an e-sim equipped. Don’t spend more than $30.00 USD for 7 Days. Only get unlimited data. Latin America does not use regular SMS and cellular calling. Everything is via whatsapp! Get signed up below using my discount link. It will automatically register your phone as long as you have an e-sim compatible device.

If you do not have an E-Sim Phone:
Your carrier should be able to provide a “travel pass” for your journey. It’s more expensive then getting a “out of network” plan, however it is available. Do not travel there without a plan for how to use your phone… trust me. It’s costly. You will be able to find SIM cards for purchase anywhere in Colombia. They are super cheap and can be inserted into your phone while you visit!
Medellin is the city of eternal spring! The weather is the same year around. If you look up the weather you’ll see there are frequent light showers with highs in the low 80’s and lows in the 60’s daily! You will probably see. a lot of rain in the forecast if you look it up. We promise it will not be rainy during our wedding weekend!
Shoes:
(outside of the ceremony day) You will be WALKING a lot in this city! Make sure you bring some comfortable shoes for different elevations and uneven surfaces.
General Clothing:
Colombia can rain! Make sure to bring a light rain repellent coat for the times outside of the wedding festivities to protect yourself from getting wet.
People in Colombia do not wear shorts, if you have lighter joggers/jeans you will be perfect. If you wear shorts, beware that people will look at you like an American.
Tech:
Colombia has the same plugs as the USA. No need for any converters
Money:
It’s a good idea to convert some US Dollars into Colombian Pesos, I recommend having at least $150 USD converted for small items you might be interested in buying. (Each time I have gone I have been able to use a credit card.)
You can RSVP directly through the link https://withjoy.com/jordan-and-catalina/rsvp
This link will ask for your first and last name, from there you will be able to RSVP to the wedding festivities.
Please let us know on the RSVP form if you have any restrictions. These will be provided directly to the kitchen on our wedding day.
+1’s and extras have been set. There will be no modifications to the guest list. When you go to RSVP, you will see the people in your party and be able to RSVP for anyone in your party. If we have made a mistake in your reservation or you don’t see someone that you need on there, please reach out to us directly.
Colombia has a lot of different options for transport.
- Cheapest: Uber! Yes Uber works in Colombia, the only thing to keep in mind is that you have to fill up the front seat first before you fill up the back seat. (They do this because taxi’s get jealous of uber’s success and they want to be incognito whenever possible)
- Taxi’s: They’re available, however I wouldn’t use them. Uber is safer and much easier.
- Rent-a-car: There are several places to rent a car while you’re in Colombia. Beware parking is scarce, and you should be careful of leaving anything in the car during your stay. Driving is also VERY different compared to the US. If you haven’t driven in a 2nd world country, I don’t recommend trying it on this trip.
- Hotels: Most hotels & AirBnb’s will help coordinate transportation. Don’t be afraid to ask!
Colombia is a beautiful country with a lot to offer.
Food is generally simple! Most restaurants will have a Spanish and English Translation.
Culture the people of Colombia are very proud of their country and what it has to offer. There are a couple things to know prior to going.
- Colombia does NOT want to be known for their pastime of narcos, escorts and cocaine. Do not talk about it, nor bring it up. They are NOT tolerant of people looking to buy women or shouting Pablo Escobar’s name.
- You will see escorts on the streets. They will try to talk to you. Just ignore them. There are plenty of police around to protect you if you decide to go into the city. Do not go anywhere that is not populated, or is super dark at night. Use your best judgement and stay safe. If you are scared about anything, Jordan and Catalina can talk about our trips there and help guide you through any questions/concerns you may have.
- Homeless people: you will see them, especially with children. It’s not dangerous to give, but be aware of pulling out cash/wallets/phones in public. People will take it. Don’t be stupid. Be very cautious of your surroundings in public.
